About the store
Walk through the Matthew Watson General Store and you will feel like you're in another era. It's the oldest operating store in the Yukon — a fixture during the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush. It's a great place to shop, admire antique goods, and enjoy a piece of homemade fudge or a delicious ice cream piled into a homemade waffle cone! Find us in the heart of Carcross, Yukon.
Our story
Little known fact: the store has only changed hands twice in its 122-year history. We purchased the store from the Tooley family in 1998 (who purchased it from the Watson family) and have been operating it ever since. Our three daughters have grown up playing in the store, working in the store, and most recently, starting to help out with the operational side of the store.
It’s been an adventure since day one - one we’re so happy to have embarked on.
